EAM Company History and Profile

In the early eighties, the two principles of EAM determined that there were opportunities for a company in southern Maine specializing in the design and manufacture of custom automation. With over 40 years of combined engineering and manufacturing experience, Steve Swinburne and Jim Robinson launched the business with their own capital in Steve's basement. In a matter of months the business had grown to a point where a larger facility became necessary and industrial space was leased at 4 Washington Avenue in Scarborough, ME. By then, EAM had seven employees and business was focused on custom engineered equipment for small assemblies.

Although the original plan to supply custom automation systems resulted in rapid expansion, it soon became apparent that a "standard" product line was needed to flatten the business cycle and produce the regular revenue needed for sustained and manageable growth .

Product Lines

EAM assembled a business plan to design and manufacture an innovative assembly machine for CD jewel cases. We recognized that the systems then available were large, expensive, overly complicated, and unreliable. Within a year, EAM had the first pneumatically operated, PLC controlled, CD Packaging Machine operating in Texas. Due to the obvious advantages of the EAM design, additional orders soon followed ultimately resulting in the sale of over 150 EAM CD Packaging Machines and related equipment throughout the world.

Today EAM offers a standard line of equipment for the CD industry including, advanced versions of the original CD Packaging Machine design that are compatible with all popular CD Jewel Box formats, and the EAM CD Sleever/Inspection Machine to insert optical discs into mailing sleeves or pouches. Also as part of our "standard" product line EAM offers high speed stackers, high speed unstackers, carton loading machines, and buffering/conveying systems, all designed to reduce reliance on direct labor and improve product consistency.

Custom Automation

EAM has continued to provide custom automation solutions to a variety of industries from automotive and microelectronics assembly to precision medical processing. These specialized applications expose the EAM Engineering Staff to the nuances of unique markets and add to our extensive design cell library. This custom business is an important component of EAM's strategy to remain well versed with emerging technologies.

Through continued, well managed growth in 1995, EAM has now relocated to a 15,000 ftÂȘ company owned facility in Scarborough, ME. In addition, we provide sufficient work for local vendors to employ an estimated 20 skilled craftsmen who manufacture our frames, wiring sub-assemblies, and machine the majority of our parts. We are proud to be a contributing partner in the economic development of our state.

EAM Mission Statement

EAM has and will design and manufacture quality products that are simple in design, easy to maintain, provide maximum utility and, are offered to our customers at a fair price. We will achieve this goal by employing energetic, dedicated, individuals who are committed to exceeding our customer's expectations. We challenge and empower our employees to work smarter, harder, longer, and to make creative suggestions for product improvements. EAM will support our equipment through a responsive service and support network committed to customer satisfaction and continually review our internal organization for ways to improve our business practices.
